it's been a while....

i know... sorry had a busy weekend. and this isn't really much of a post. but the new york times has an article on literary dealbreakers... (aka books that there's no way you could  date someone who's read...)  like a year or so ago i started seeing this guy-- and the first time in his apartment i noticed he had an ann coulter book and this chick-lit book about getting married (i think it was called something blue...) he swore the ann coulter book was an airport impulse buy and he didn't know what he was getting himself into.. but the something blue he said he found on the subway and it looked "interesting"--it bugged me but it wasn't a dealbreaker..although when he moved to a new apartment and still thought enough to bring BOTH BOOKS.... that was the dealbreaker.

xbox live is now tracking and branding cheaters. kinda funny (and brings a mental image of my brother yelling at his friends while playing halo 3.

she & him will be playing hiro ballroom april 21st (it's a monday and alas i can't go.. but speaking of my brother--i'm making sure he goes and takes lots of pics)

some links....

here are a few quick links....

gridskipper brings you the best places to play beer pong in nyc. (if this were for nj i'd be disappointed my sister's basement and every frat house in new brunswick wasn't on this list.)

um... fairtip.org..
apparently this recession is hurting waitstaff...

radar brings you an advice column from spencer pratt (i don't watch the hills I SWEAR, but i do read enough gossip magazines to know this guys a bit of a jerk--and the first question is pretty hysterical)

anyways. here are a few links.

i hate my roommates 2.0 (try reading this with out laughing. seriously--i dare you.)

t

finally! a recipe!

so here's a quick veggie recipe i made this week in class, my chef handed me a bag of zucchini and a bowl of sliced mushrooms and told me to have fun. so i did.
here's what you'll need.

zucchini pancakes
4-5 zucchinis
1 med. onion
1 c. mushrooms
1 egg
1/4 c. milk
1/2 c. flour
salt & pepper to taste.
oil

chop the mushrooms and saute with olive oil until they're reduced by at least 1/2. peel the zucchini and with a cheese grater grate on the largest setting, do the same with about 1/2-3/4 of the onion (depending on how much you like onion) when the mushrooms are cool enough to handle chop finely and combine with zucchini and onion, add egg and milk and mix- add flour a little bit at a time until it has a loose batter consistency. (you want it to be mainly veggies with a the egg, milk and flour acting as a binder) add the salt and pepper to taste. heat a medium pan with vegetable oil so that it'll cover your pancakes by half-- add a small ladle or ice cream scoop of batter into the oil and turn once golden brown (if you find that they're too runny to flip add more flour for the next batch) when golden brown on the opposite site remove from pan. ONLY FLIP PANCAKES ONCE--IF YOU FLIP MORE THAN ONCE IT WILL START TO ABSORB THE OIL. they will still be a little soft and almost liquidy in the middle that's okay.

you can add other veggies to this-- shredded carrots, chopped spinach or broccoli.

after making this i realized it was something my great grandmother would make when i was growing up.. guess i just kinda retained it. anyways.. it came really good..and my one friend has been bugging me for veg. recipes since i left for school.

links galore!

i've been slacking lately.. so to make up for it..

ugh! where can i find indian pizza in edison??? seriously.

punk rock hot sauce... seriously ian mckaye.. why?

i don't really like anthony bourdain (don't get me wrong, i've read and appreciate his books... but he only tells one side of the culinary story and to be honest les halles doesn't impress me..) but this write up from a philly magazine entertained me "[on philly] "my first impression was w.c. fields was right, this place was fucking closed" and  from his latest book "there is no lying with food. You either can or can't make an omelet. No amount of skill with words can conceal the truth of the matter."

and "the napkin of shame" kinda reminds me of a coupling episode

observer brings explains this new phenomenon of "urbane tomboys"-- since arriving at school i've slowly fallen into this category...

speaking of chef's with tattoos--i came across this casting call...weird. (and seriously, why's it have to be a dude?)

and if you live, or eat in nyc--check this out and search your fave restaurant ... it's kinda disturbing..

Guinness is trying to make St. Patrick's day a federal holiday. Read about it here-- sign the petition here

Maxim does a story on hot new york city chefs.  (they're all dudes. surprisingly enough..)

and one of them has their own online cooking show; "cooking with the band" so far it's featured the likes of el-p, tokyo police club and matt & kim

the punk guy posted some karate mp3's (i've been listening to them most of the day) not really sure how to describe them so just check them out... (he also posted some gossip b-sides)

also, i gave the mike doughty album another listen today. and only hate 2 songs. the rest is pretty good...

bought the new mike doughty cd. little dissappointed. after 27 jennifers (redux) it gets good. love most the album after it.. like this song.. but seriously what happened?

geeky stuff...

so.. geeksugar posted cool gmail tips..like if someone tried to email me and typed in my email address w/ lots of periods or send it to googlemail.com i'd still get it. (i tested it..it's true)

and gizmodo shows you the worst people have done to their electronics..and i thought my old keyboard that was covered in soda and random other spills was bad....

oh and another reason i love my mac....seriously this alone makes my computer worth the price i paid for it i've dropped my macbook at least twice from 3-4 feet and it's still kicking.

and i seriously want this (ok it's not geeky..but it's girly-ish)

quick song....

my friend's band knyfe hyts (ex- ex-models) did a cover of iron maiden's "running free"
check it out at pitchfork

hopefully there will be more later..

this is a little short today, sorry, but i've spent the past 2 days getting caught up on entertainment weekly and getting into lost. (that and actually doing stuff for class)

so... i'm still trying to figure out how i'm just finding out about this now, but coolio has an online cooking show- i can't wrap my head around it. but wow.

i'm in a nutrition class now my chef reminds me of will forte and keeps talking about fried chicken and rib eye steaks--but basically reinforces everything in moderation and there really are no bad foods which is true. i mean i guess if you want drastic weight loss you basically have to cut 1000 calories from your diet daily and in about 3 days you'll lose a pound. scary but yeah.

late post? or early? hmm...

so i'm back at school--this trip went by way to quick and didn't get to see everyone i wanted to oh well.

for some reason most the ride back i listened to npr--- i think they sucked me in with this piece on new orleans shrimp.

i also stopped at these outlets in connecticut and got this! (yes--in obnoxious lime green and for probably half of what it costs on that site and def. nowhere near the list price) and a few pairs of sneakers.. although one isn't for me.

remember jill sobule? she wrote that "i kissed a girl" song.. well apparently she's trying to raise money for her new album.. see how she's doing here.

i'm sorry this is funny--and i love david cross.

i should really be packing...

i leave for rhode island today- and spent most of yesterday in the city, it was nice saw the orphanage (a spanish thriller/horror movie) i'm not a huge fan of horror movies- but this wasn't gory just creepy and kinda nightmarish on my drive home i had what i like to call the "movie epiphany" when you finally sort out all the details of a movie kinda like an a-ha! moment. anyways. once i sorted it out i liked it a bit more. i def. recommend checking it out if you get a chance to. also went to dinner at this spanish place on 1st & houston which was pretty good. (i guess the theme for the night was spanish..accidently)

ok. so really there hasn't been much going on lately.

gizmodo posted about trent reznor's 36 instrumental tracks entitled ghosts I-IV that he's releasing ala radiohead meaning. for free online but in his case if you want the full album you have to pay $5. and he even has a $300 package with some goodies.

slice shows us the top ten crazy asian pizza crusts-- a lot of them are stuffed w/ shrimp
